I just spent five days on a family vacation, two of them in Old Forge, NY. I was very impressed with the quality of the exhibits, the size of the building, and the variety of programs offered by the Arts Guild. They must be very well funded, I thought. Or was it that they had a community who loved to be supportive of and active in the arts? The center sponsors classes, juried art exhibits, concerts, lectures, and art walks. They are in a spacious new building with room for several exhibits at one time, a stage for performances, offices for staff, and ample parking. But wait — I just checked the new building on their website, and it turns out the one I considered spacious is the old building! The new one will have 28,000 square feet! If you are involved with your community’s art center , you’d best check out the Old Forge center to find out what they’re doing that makes them so successful. I know I want to go back when the new building is finished!
