Following the succes of the Amazon Kindle, it has been reported (by the New York Times at least) that the Lab 126 division of Amazon which is responsible for the manufacture of their hardware devices, is gearing up to create new ranges that go beyond the ebook readers already popularised with the world. The whole report is based on some job openings with Lab 126 and it could just be that the company is looking for Supply Chain Managers and Engineers to help launch and improve newer versions of the hardware but you never know. E-books are really only a small portion of the digital content portfolio that Amazon boasts and you can also download music and videos

Apparently you can use your PC for more than visiting Facebook when you should be working and you don’t have to play video games through a console connected to your PC – honestly, it’s a crazy world we live in. In all seriousness, though, PC gaming is often considered the hardcore gamers choice and if you’re into strategy games, massive RPGs, and online MMORPGs then your PC is quite probably your gaming system of choice

Google has been making headways of sorts into the social networking arena and many analysts believe that they are gearing themselves up for a concerted push at the social networking crown that is currently held by Facebook. While they already own a number of social networking sites, including Orkut which is apparently very popular in Brazil, they have yet to make a real splash in Europe and the US. The launch of Google Wave was about as high profile as you could get and while it was dubbed as being a social networking service, in reality it turned out to be an overly complicated suite of collaborative and communicative tools.

On the day that Apple opens its largest store yet in London, the AA has warned that iPod zombies are becoming a major cause of accidents on UK roads. You can barely open a new Internet page without being inundated by Apple news so it’s hardly surprising to learn that the iPod is causing such a stir and to many drivers it definitely won’t come as a shock that it’s actually the pedestrians that are getting the bad press for once. Maybe the next problem for UK road users will be pedestrians that are too busy checking out local properties for the iPhone game MyTown

The conversation here at Gadgets Towers today has revolved mostly around the unveiling of the new mascots for the London 2012 Olympic Games . The general consensus is that Wenlock and Mandeville are a bit odd, but then they are just mascots, and not to be taken too seriously. They are supposed to be made from bits of metal leftover from that used to build the Olympic Stadium.

Today I’m featuring more abstract paintings from my black and white series, some of which have hints of other colors within them. There is something about the starkness of black and white that emphasizes composition and texture. Abstract Art: Games We Play (are not always innocent), 48″ x 48″ acrylic on canvas. Abstract Art: Ringed Migration (finding connections where we may), 40″ x 40″ acrylic on canvas. Abstract Art: Parsing the Fullness (inexplicably in other dimensions), 30″ x 30″ acrylic on canvas

South Africa is a bustle of activity preparing for FIFA 2010, which begins in just 52 days. Soccer balls are literally everywhere; swaddling the Hillbrow Tower, flanking the airport walls and popping up on hundreds of billboards far above the noise of jack hammers and lawn mowers. Stadiums in iconic shapes loom under the bright yellow African sky such as Johannesburg’s calabash (an African pot) shaped stadium and Cape Town’s Green Point Stadium a stone’s throw from Table Mountain.

At the invitation of the fabulous Jen Robinson , I am so proud to be a participant in the Share A Story, Shape a Future initiative, an “annual blog tour for literacy.” For five days, “we harness the power of the Worldwide web to share ideas about ways to engage kids as readers.” If you haven’t been following all along, look forward to treating yourself to a weekend of delving into inspirational posts about the power of print, discovering amazing real world book lists, and connecting with your children’s book-loving brethren! The initiative was great out of the gate thanks to an invitation to share what works and what excites us to share via writing prompts by Terry Doherty, with provocative points for discussion every day that followed. Day two was all about “Literacy My Way” in which creative articles collected by Susan Stephenson of The Book Chook conspired to demonstrate that there’s more than one way to skin the proverbial reading “cat.” Day Three was hosted by Sarah Mulhern of The Reading Zone, featuring “The Nonfiction Book Hook,” showing how books about real things lead to real reading.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a role-playing game but at the same time you can play it as a pure action game. It was designed firstly for PC and XBOX 360 and lately it became available for PC3 either. There is no significant difference from the previous versions but for those who are going to play this game for the first time it will be really interesting and exciting. Compared with the previous versions it’s visual and sound effects are much more processed including colorful landscapes and animals, twitter of birds and your own customized heroes which will differ according to your character and choice. For example, you will be able to create lizard people or cat women or even people of different nationalities. And even more – if none of the given characters suits, you can create your own unique class from scratch
