Amazon To Release More Hardware?

Following the succes of the Amazon Kindle, it has been reported (by the New York Times at least) that the Lab 126 division of Amazon which is responsible for the manufacture of their hardware devices, is gearing up to create new ranges that go beyond the ebook readers already popularised with the world. The whole report is based on some job openings with Lab 126 and it could just be that the company is looking for Supply Chain Managers and Engineers to help launch and improve newer versions of the hardware but you never know. E-books are really only a small portion of the digital content portfolio that Amazon boasts and you can also download music and videos

iPhone Owners Have More Sex Than Android Users

It could be the confirmation you were looking for or the reason you need to go out and buy an iPhone rather than a Blackberry or an Android mobile phone. According to a survey conducted by dating site OkCupid.com iPhone owners have more sex and with more partners than owners of other smartphones – wow, there’s an app for that? Male owners of the Apple wonder phone will have had 10 different partners by the time they reach the age of 30 so it seems that antenna problems only stretch so far as the phone itself

Your "No Duh" Security Story of the Week

Apparently PC Pro likes to be late to the game. They are reporting that modern smart phones are vulnerable to “ smudge attacks .” So what is a “smudge attack?” It’s a fancy term for saying you can look at the finger prints on the touchscreen of a phone to determine the password or unlock pattern for the phone

The Jaguar XJ – A World Of Gadgets On Wheels

Sometimes, adding a car review as a gadget can prove tenuous at best but we do it anyway because we like cars but Jaguar has gone all out to provide us with a car that you can proudly and genuinely call a gadget – in fact, you can call it a whole bucket load of gadgets because the new Jaguar XJ is crammed full of tech goodies that every reader will be crying out to get their hands on. It’s got probably one of the most ridiculously intelligent dashboards you’ll see in a car for some time. Rather than albeit functional but now old fashioned dials to show speed, petrol level, etc… there is instead a 12.3 inch LCD screen and it’s definitely not a boring affair

Nanotechnology Means Solar Could Soon Be Everywhere

The fight to find a viable and meaningful use of renewable energy is far from over. Solar power is a fairly obvious use of our natural resources especially if global warming leads to hotter summers but solar panels can prove cumbersome and far from attractive

Logitech Launches New Gaming Peripheral Set

Apparently you can use your PC for more than visiting Facebook when you should be working and you don’t have to play video games through a console connected to your PC – honestly, it’s a crazy world we live in. In all seriousness, though, PC gaming is often considered the hardcore gamers choice and if you’re into strategy games, massive RPGs, and online MMORPGs then your PC is quite probably your gaming system of choice

Blackberry Owners Don’t Know Who RIM Are; iPhone 4 Now On Vodafone

Whether it’s a case of bad company branding or it just doesn’t matter the fact that 37% of Blackberry owners don’t know who Research in Motion (RIM) are is quite a startling fact considering they are the company that manufactures the Blackberry line of smartphones. The poll, which was undertaken by rightmobilephone.co.uk, also threw up some other figures that RIM should perhaps take not of. 70% of those questioned said that the Blackberry Torch (which we think needs a name change for a start) would fail to beat the iPhone 4 and 83% of users said that the Apple handset offered better apps.

Google Adds To Social Media Portfolio By Buying Slide

Google has been making headways of sorts into the social networking arena and many analysts believe that they are gearing themselves up for a concerted push at the social networking crown that is currently held by Facebook. While they already own a number of social networking sites, including Orkut which is apparently very popular in Brazil, they have yet to make a real splash in Europe and the US. The launch of Google Wave was about as high profile as you could get and while it was dubbed as being a social networking service, in reality it turned out to be an overly complicated suite of collaborative and communicative tools.

Smart Contact Lenses Give Bionic Terminator-Vision

Before Arnold Schwarzenegger was a republican governor of California, 80′s babies like myself knew him as the Terminator . Among many things, the coolest thing about the Terminator is that he had bionic vision that sensed the whereabouts of his targets, scanned their faces, and provided instant details about any item of inquiry.

iPod Zombies Causing Road Accidents And MyTown Available On UK iPhone

On the day that Apple opens its largest store yet in London, the AA has warned that iPod zombies are becoming a major cause of accidents on UK roads. You can barely open a new Internet page without being inundated by Apple news so it’s hardly surprising to learn that the iPod is causing such a stir and to many drivers it definitely won’t come as a shock that it’s actually the pedestrians that are getting the bad press for once. Maybe the next problem for UK road users will be pedestrians that are too busy checking out local properties for the iPhone game MyTown

New Week, New Gadgets At Gadgets Towers!

A new week and plenty of new Gadgets here at Gadgets Towers! We hope you’ve been keeping an eye on our What’s New section, as we’ve had some great new products in over the last few weeks. Here are a few of my favourites: The Veho Pebble Keeping your various Gadgets powered up when you’re out and about is a necessity! I found how difficult it is getting by without my mobile phone this month, and if it runs out of juice whilst you’re out and about it can leave you stranded, and cut off from the mobile world at large. The Pebble is perfect for keeping handy on long journeys when you aren’t sure when you’ll be able to charge up next

Toy Story 3, As Good As They Say?

Nearly another week gone here at Gadgets Towers, and I’m pleased to be able to announce that my poor drowned mobile phone has been repaired and should be back with me over the weekend/early next week! So I’ve made it through nearly two weeks without my phone, and other than a real feeling of disconnection, haven’t actually missed it too much, but then thankfully all my well laid plans have gone as they were meant to, and I’ve menaged to meet people where and when it was pre-arranged, which has probably helped a lot. Time will tell if I receive a bombardment of text invites and voicemails to various social events that I have now missed, but somehow I doubt this is the case.

Vibration Powered cells = extended onanism time

Power has long been the Achilles’ heel of just about every portable device that’s come out. If it isn’t a short battery life, our little hand held gadgets weighed about as much as a spare tire. Lithium Ion cells have long since been the ideal medium for extended battery life.
